I'm not so sure that "happiness" is the goal. I think I'm more after "contentment" and "satisfaction" on a day in, day out basis. When I think of "happiness" I also think of "saddness". Sometimes I'm happy and sometimes I'm sad, but usually I'm somewhere in between. If the feeling is one of general satisfaction or contentment, I think I'm in a pretty good place.

I'd be interested to hear others thoughts on all this.

I would agree with you cz111. It seems like alot of the time I didn't realize I was "happy" until whatever it was that made me happy is already over.

Happiness ebbs and flows through all of our lives. As we journey, we must learn to enjoy the views from the hilltops as the road is sure to lead back to a valley at some point.

I have a friend that went through confusing times and as he seeked help he learned how to feel the full spectrum of feelings. It may be that human beings are loosing their sixth sense. would be that part of our evolution process? Do we loose our senses? Do we gain more of them so we worry more about them?

I think that is very well put. I'm also after contentment rather than happiness. Living below my means hleps me accomplish that to some degree, in that I don't have to worry much about running out of money. However, the job that I have is a source of stress and anxiety. I have tried several times to limit my involvement and work to "turn it off," but instead I get more responsibilities, more stress, and spend more time working and - even worse - thinking about working.

I think that happiness is generally fleeting. My goal is maintain a positive mood and out look as much of the time as possible. I have found money plays a very small role in my ability to do this. Its much more about taking the time for being grateful what I have in my life.

Staying grounded in what I have and staying grateful is very important for me too. So much of our culture seems to run contrary to this way of thinking. A lot of the media plays into our insecurity of what we don't have, and how we are lacking in some way.
