I work as a clinical psychologist. During my graduate school training I don't remember any discussion about money, financial concerns, work, materialism/consumerism as issues that cause mental distress, interpersonal hardship or unhealthy behavior. And yet its understood these issues are very common stressors, countless studies confirm this. In my practice today these are still difficult issues to raise and have people talk about in an open honest way. Our culture seem to foster secrecy around these topics.
