ah-HA! This is an easy one! I see that the wife is PROUD of her husband's ability to provide, and she's going to show it off! Right on!
What that family needs in full disclosure beforehand. "Honey, I'm planning on getting <object>. Can we just keep this in the family? I REALLY don't want to have to lend it out/get the neighbors one, ya know? <wink>?"
This kind of cooperation could go far!
